September is Self-Care Awareness Month

Breathe.  Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure.

September is self care awareness month and as this quote from Oprah reminds us, self care is about how you feel right now.  Not dwelling on the past, not anxious about the future.  

One story that resonated deeply with me pertaining to self care is about picturing yourself as a pitcher of water.  As you tip over, you pour into those around you- your children, spouse, parents, friends, coworkers.  Eventually, tipped over as you are, that water is going to run dry.

Instead, stand back up straight.  Let water pour into you.  When it gets too full, the water will overflow.  That overflow is the abundance you give to those same people.  Instead of draining you, you are both feeling great as the water feeds both of you.

Where does the water come from?  Self care of course!

It's not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself, and to make your happiness a priority.  It's necessary.
