Your Social Isolation To-Do List

Your Social Isolation To-Do List - Wish Rock Relaxation

We hope that the majority of you are able to read this from home, and that your biggest worry right now is boredom as opposed to those required to work and worried about catching this terrible virus.

Right now the world is overloaded with information about the coronavirus, which can cause a lot of anxiety. You're cooped up at home, worried about you or your loved ones catching it, wondering when the toilet paper will be restocked and if you'll be able to get some before you run out, what food is safe to eat, meanwhile watching countless updates on the news.  Here are some tips to keep your mind and body occupied:

Get Social

Humans are social creatures, so the shelter in place and isolation orders can be trying.  Embrace social media, as it is the perfect way to stay in contact with your loved ones without fear of spreading germs.

Have a virtual happy hour with your friends.  Try to keep the mood upbeat by asking a question that is not about the virus, such as:  What is the most hilarious Netflix show you've seen that has distracted you from the current situation?  Here is a great NY Times article on how to have a successful virtual happy hour.

Embrace Creativity

Is there a new skill you'd like to try?  Or perhaps an old one that dropped by the wayside when life got in the way?  Go through your Pinterest boards to find a project you really wanted to try but never had the time.  Or, get going on that book you've been wanting to write.

Creativity does more than tackle boredom - it's good for your brain. "It's almost as if the brain ramps up its sensorimotor processing in order to be in a creative state," researcher Charles Limb, MD, says in a news release.
